ABOUT THE CLOTHS

Yes, you can wash the cloth at 30 degrees, tumble dry it on a low heat and iron it on a low heat.

The MAXI cloths are 1m x 1m in size and the MIDI cloths are 70cm x 70cm in size.

The MIDI cloths are a fantastic ‘make learning fun’ resource so their size is smaller to fit easier on tables.

There are currently 10 designs that you can choose from. Watch this space however, since I’m already working on my next drop 🙂

I chose organic cotton because it much more sustainable than regular cotton. It uses no chemicals, fertilizers or pesticides to produce, protecting local habitats and the farmers which grow it. It also uses less water, preserves soil quality, and limits soil erosion.

The cloths are printed with reative dyes as they are one the most eco friendly ways to dye fabrics. They contain no heavy metals or other known toxic substances and do not need mordants. The fixation or absorption rate of low-impact dyes is at least 70%, creating less waste water runoff than conventional dyeing processes. They are applied at relatively low temperatures (30ºC compared to the 100ºC needed for direct dyes), saving energy, and require controlled amounts of salt and alkali. dye cycle is shorter than it is for other dye processes, meaning less water, salt and chemicals are needed.

Global Organic Textiles Standard, or GOTS, is recognised as the leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres worldwide. It defines the highest level environmental and social standards, with the aim to define requirements to ensure the organic status of textiles.

GOTS traces the cotton from start to finish with the use of transactional certificates.

Under GOTS our supplier is audited to check that workers are provided with a safe and clean environment, and are paid a living wage.

GOTS prohibits the use of chemicals commonly used in textile processing that can cause serious illnesses and bans the use of any pollutants which can destroy eco-systems.

As part of the sustainability management criteria, GOTS requires suppliers to tell them how much water and energy they use to process the cotton. They also target goals and procedures to help reduce energy and water consumption.

Allergenic and toxic chemical residues are not allowed in GOTS certified fabrics.
